June 26 , 2010 - Palm Springs International ShortFest 2010 It's not often I get to say that I just finished working on one of the dream projects of my life. For the past three months, I've invested myself deeply into the creation of this 2D animated short entitled Palm Springs for MAKE. It functions as the show opener for this year's Palm Springs International ShortFest. I've always wanted to do a film noir pastiche in 2D, inspired by the style of 101 Dalmatians. A special thanks goes out to my producer, Danny Robashkin, and the whole animation crew at MAKE for helping me turn this concept into a reality! |

March 7, 2010 - Best Buy: Trade In Boy, it's been a while. A lot of projects have been brewing in various stages of development, and several I'm not legally permitted to post yet. But here is an in-store ad for Best Buy that I directed the animation for last fall. It was a new challenge to follow the agency's creative choice to emulate the Japanese anime style of movement and staging. I think given the three week production schedule and everyone's paradigm shift, it turned out well.
September 14 , 2009 - Fruitless Efforts Debuts! The short film co-directed by Aaron Quist and myself at Make is finally online. Check out the site!
July 25 , 2009 - Justin Weber is all over the Palm Springs International Shortfest 2009 There's this guy I know who thinks he's all that... and he darn well should. You know why? Because not only did he direct the opening sequence to this year's Palm Springs International Shortfest at Make, but his film Juiced and Jazzed also won Second Place at that very festival in the Best Animated Short category! If you run into Justin Weber, be sure to give him a hug. I had the privilege of working as an animator on both projects.
July 24 , 2009 - Blue Cross Blue Shield: Part Deux Last week marked the successful conclusion of two more Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska commercials! Get 'em while they're hot. I also added a non-directorial section to the Animation page, to feature some recent projects where I had a big role in production.
April 23 , 2009 - Illustration Section Updated! At long last, the Illustration section of my site has content! It's silly that it took me so long to finally post some material there. It seems that the section will turn into a combination of animation production art, commissioned illustration work, and personal drawings.
April 14 , 2009 - Website Makeover I've been told that a darker backdrop with a more modest look is easier on the eyes! Also, I've fixed the video links that were a bit haywire during the website reconstruction. Mortimer & Bracket and Nickelodeon, welcome back!
December 7 , 2008 - Many New Things! 2D Animated Commercials It's been a while since I've posted, but it has been a busy summer and fall. We finished another short film at MAKE that I'll be posting soon hopefully! And I also got to direct the animation for the three 2D animated TV spots belows. The Weatherby spot I animated by myself in about four days, with Colin Levy present as the final compositor for the background textures. The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska commercials were a thrill to direct in traditional 2D, and I got to work with a bunch of my friends and former classmates in the studio. New Burger King Ads We also completed a few new Burger King ads in the past few months. For me, the two notable ones were the Healthy Options campaign, and the promo for the kids' meal tie-in with the new upcoming Pink Panther 2 movie. Aaron Quist and I both looked at a lot of Richard Williams and Eric Goldberg reference for the Panther and Clousseau characters, and it was a thrill getting to animate such iconic characters in traditional 2D. MCAD Student Collaboration Born in Captivity This is a film that I worked on during my final semester at MCAD - I took the Animation Collaboration course, and was assigned the task of assisting Tom Schroeder (the course instructor) with overseeing the character animation on the project and ensuring that the hard work of the many student animators in the class came together. It was a lot of fun seeing the students embrace a homogeneous visual style while still imbuing their own sensibilities into their scenes, and working smartly within the contexts of their varying experience levels.
June 7 , 2008 - Two New Commercials These two animations are a little different than what I normally post on my site, but I thought they were worth putting in the gallery because they reflect some of the other kinds of work I do at MAKE. The National City Bank spot I completed by myself in just one day, except for the final audio which was added in later by the agency. The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska spot is the first in a new campaign of theirs, and the exciting thing about it for me was the integration of the 2D animated elements. That was my contribution to the project.
March 31, 2008 - Meet the "Golden Gramms" The Golden Grahams spec ad I designed and directed for MAKE is now online! The original concept drawings for the animation can be found here.
March 30, 2008 - The Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2008 and more... Here are a few more new spots I worked on at MAKE over the past couple of months. The first spot is an ad for Target's "Club Wedd" campaign, and it screens internally on the television monitors at Target stores. The second and third spots are Burger King promotions that aired before and during the 2008 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, respectively. Although I supervised and directed the animation for the BK ads, the animation itself was actually the handiwork of the very talented Dan Lundquist and Holly Thorstad.
March 22, 2008 - MAKE Bumpers for Stash At last! It has been a few months, but I'm finally able to post some of the new work I've been doing at MAKE. Here are three promotional bumpers I directed for inclusion on the latest Stash DVD where MAKE is being featured. The bumpers pictured below screen, respectively, before the MAKE demo reel, the Spilled Oil spot, and the AICP Sponsor Intro. Click on the images to play!

There has been coverage of the project in numerous locations such as Motionographer and Stash: Feed.
